Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has advised residents of the state to ramp up farming in order to ensure food sufficiency and easing of the current economic hardship.

The governor gave the advice on Thursday, February 22, 2024, while addressing the leadership of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Uyo.

Governor Eno said that the involvement of high percentage of the population in farming would address the current economic hardship being experienced across the country.

He blamed the present economic situation on long time neglect of agriculture by many Nigerians.

Pastor Eno said that the state government was making plans to establish a Bulk Purchase Agency to help moderate prices of commodities and reduce the effects of the hardship on citizens.

He said that the solution to the current economic situation was beyond trading blames, but required a readjustment of life styles, and adopting measures such as farming as a viable option irrespective of class in the society.

Governor Eno said that the hardship did not occur by accident as it resulted from long time neglect of things that should have been done.

The governor used the medium to appeal to Nigerians to exercise patience with government and continue to pray for the leaders in different positions as commanded by God in the holy books.

Eno welcomed and appreciated the leadership of the CCN for choosing Akwa Ibom for their National Executive Council meeting.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of CCN, Archbishop David Onuoha, said the team was in the state for a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Onuoha, who is in-charge of Anglican Archdiocese of Owerri, also used the opportunity to call on Nigerians to show more understanding with the leaders and always pray for them. (NAN)
