Women Affairs Minister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has pledged full rehabilitation for the Al-Kadriyar sisters who were rescued from their abductors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

One of the sisters, Najeebah, was killed by the kidnappers.

Mrs. Kennedy-Ohanenye made the promise yesterday in Abuja when she visited the rescued girls at the facility where they are undergoing medical treatment.

The minister said it was unfortunate that the girls passed through such a harrowing experience in the hands of fellow human beings.

She said her ministry had initiated full rehabilitation plans to reintegrate the girls into society.

The Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, Ohaeri Joseph, announced the minister’s plan in a statement.

The statement said the minister promised that her ministry would closely monitor the girls’ recovery and be there for them immediately they leave the facility and begin full rehabilitation.

This, Kennedy-Ohanenye said, would include the engagement of a psychologist, due to the trauma the girls must been through when they were in the custody of the kidnappers.

The minister said her ministry would liaise with the management of the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) to ensure that one of the girls undertakes her one-year national service with the Ministry of Women Affairs.

She suggested that the girls be moved from their present schools to another safer environment that would not subject them to any form of vulnerability.

Kennedy-Ohanenye hailed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for working with credible intelligence and coordinated collaboration among the security agencies which led to the release of the girls last weekend.

The minister expressed the concern of President Ahmed Tinubu over incessant cases of kidnapping across the country, especially within the FCT.
