The Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Tuesday, inspected the Victor Attah International Airport in Akwa Ibom State.
Keyamo, who was invited by Governor Umo Eno, commended the state government’s achievements in aviation infrastructure, according to a statement by his spokesman, Tunde Moshood.
The minister singled out the near completion of the new rerminal building, hailing it as the best terminal facility constructed by any sub-national entity in the country.
He explained that the state-of-the-art terminal is equipped to handle both domestic and international flight operations simultaneously, showcasing the Akwa Ibom government’s commitment to advancing aviation capabilities.
During the tour guided by the governor, the minister highlighted the strategic significance of the airport’s maintenance, repairs, and overhaul facility.
According to him, the minister emphasized that the MRO would serve not only Nigeria but also the entirety of West, East, and North Africa.
“The inspection covered key areas such as the MRO, the upcoming terminal building, and the newly constructed taxiway, all of which contribute to the airport’s growing prominence.
“Governor Eno is actively seeking collaboration with the Federal Government to fully harness the airport’s potential. The prospect of utilizing the airport’s state-of-the-art facilities for the benefit of the nation aligns with the government’s broader vision for advancing the aviation sector.
“The Akwa Ibom Government’s commitment to aviation development marks a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure and positions Victor Attah International Airport as a pivotal hub for air travel across the African continent,” the minister said.
