…Vows to appear in court for corruption cases
New Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu, has described recent actions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a timely warning for corrupt politicians looting the commonwealth of the nation.
President Tinubu had, recently, announced the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and the National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Halima Shehu, over alleged improprieties.
Responding to questions from journalists in Abuja at a media parley organised by the commission, Adamu said: “Those saying the ICPC is a toothless bulldog should wait and see; at least, we have seen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu actions in 72 hours that he is committed to tackling corruption.”
Adamu, who vowed to do things differently from his predecessors, promised to appear in court for corruption cases as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), urging journalists to go and check his records as the Attorney General of Jigawa State for four years.
He said: “One of the steps I would be taking to improve the system is to show myself in court during the prosecution of persons charged with corruption by the ICPC.” He also said he would involve the Nigerian Law School in the fight against corruption.
“As the chairman of ICPC, I will be appearing in court during prosecutions. If there’s a case, I feel the need to go to the court, I will be there,” he said.
