Bandits allegedly killed over 100 persons in recent raids on multiple communities in Plateau State’s Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas.
According to Monday Kasa, Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee of Bokkos Local Government Area, the organized attacks began on Saturday and lasted until Christmas Eve, when locals were already in a festive mood.
According to the local government leader, the number of casualties is increasing as additional bodies are retrieved by the team of security professionals, local vigilantes, and hunters who are still combing the bushes for missing people who were ambushed during the attacks.
He went on to add that the terrorists burned down many homes, looted farm products, and destroyed property.
The unprovoked attacks got Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s attention, who condemned the act and encouraged swift action and community vigilance.
In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor encouraged security forces to apprehend the perpetrators of the atrocities and bring them to justice.
The governor also urged residents across the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security personnel so that it can be investigated quickly.
While rescue efforts in the targeted communities continue, neither the police department nor the combined security task force Operation Safe Haven have commented on the attacks.
