Management of Akwa United Football Club of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has given insight into the reason behind the resignation of the club chief coach, Fatai Osho.

The chairman of the Club, Otuekong Paul Bassey, though said he accepted Osho to go mixed feelings, regretted that the former chief tactician of the club was under pressure from fans to quit due to the Akwa United’s poor run of form.

According to him “Coach Osho, is a victim of world wide football tradition where coaches, no matter how good, pay the price for poor run of their teams.”

“He is a good coach; he remains one of the best in the land, unfortunately, it did not work for him at Akwa United.

Osho came to a club that in the past eight years boasts a tradition of excellence, hence the misgivings of our supporters world wide. He is a victim of Akwa United’s success. We wish him well going forward,” Bassey noted.

Replacing Osho, he said, would not be easy, but appreciated all those who have expressed the desire to fill the void, disclosing that, “we have received so many applications home and abroad and we are not in a hurry to make a decision. For now, the assistant coaches led by Umar Abdullahi are in charge of the team”.

However, in his response, Osho said: “Elder Paul Bassey, I can’t thank you enough for my time at Akwa United FC. You’re a rare breed that deserves all happiness and success. We gave it our all, but it was not to be.This temporary set back will be followed by unimaginable success. I will forever appreciate you”.
