Right of Reply & Complaints

Before you publish: Check this matches how your editors handle complaints. This draft was written to match how the website works, but it is not legal advice; have it checked by your lawyer. Delete this box before publishing.

If you are named in our reporting, or think we have got something wrong or treated you unfairly, we want to hear from you.

Before we publish

When we report serious allegations about a person or organisation, we try to contact them first and give them a fair chance to respond. If they do not reply, we say so in the story.

Right of reply

If a story concerns you and your side was missing or incomplete, send us your response through our contact form with a link to the story. Where it is fair and relevant, we will add your response to the story or publish it separately, and note the update.

Making a complaint

  1. Contact us through our contact form or at publisher@thenewsdesk.ng. Include the link to the story, what you believe is wrong or unfair, and any evidence.
  2. An editor who was not involved in the story will review it.
  3. We will reply with our decision. If we got something wrong, we will correct it as described in our Corrections Policy.

We judge complaints against our Editorial Policy. We do not remove accurate journalism because it is unwelcome, but we will always consider new facts, privacy concerns and safety risks. Making a complaint to us does not affect any other right you have.
