We want everyone to be able to read The News Desk, whatever device, connection or assistive technology they use.
What we do
- Pages work on phones, tablets and computers, and can be zoomed without losing content.
- A dark mode is available from the moon or sun button at the top of every page, and the site follows your device’s light or dark setting by default.
- The site can be used with a keyboard: a “Skip to content” link appears first, and the focused link is always outlined.
- Moving elements, such as the breaking-news ticker, pause when you hover over them, and animation is reduced if your device asks for reduced motion.
- Text and backgrounds are chosen for strong contrast, and headings are structured so screen readers can navigate them.
- We aim to describe pictures with alternative text and to caption photographs.
Known limits
Some older stories, embedded videos and posts from other services, and adverts supplied by others may not meet the same standard. We fix problems as we find them.
Tell us about a problem
If something is hard to use, or you need a story in another format, use our contact form or email publisher@thenewsdesk.ng. Tell us the page and the problem, and we will do our best to help.
