Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he knew Afrobeats would be great when given the platform to be heard.
The Grammy-nominated singer stated that Afrobeats is now heard in cities across the world.
Speaking in a recent interview with France 24, Davido said he’s proud of the successes African music has recorded in recent times.
He said, “African culture as a whole has elevated, and I think it’s visibility. It has always been lit; people come to Nigeria and go to Ghana for Christmas; it has been that way for 20 to 30 years.
“The music has always been good, but we’ve never been given that opportunity to be heard or platforms. Now, you can see us on platforms, if you turn on your radio in New York, Paris, or London, you hear Afrobeats. I always knew that if we were given the opportunity to be heard, people would love it. The culture as a whole. Not only music, food, fashion, and the list goes on.
“I’m just happy that Africans in the diaspora are proud and can stand up and say ‘I’m from Africa’ no matter where they are in the world.”
Davido’s album ‘Timeless’ is nominated in the Best Global Music Album category, while ‘Feel’ and ‘Unavailable’ are nominated in the Best Global Music Performance and Best African Music Performance categories, respectively in the 66th Grammy Awards.
Davido recently headlined the O2 Arena for his Timeless Concert, and the singer is set to headline the Accor Arena next before heading for the Grammy ceremony.
