The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, has presented cheques for the sum of N52,383,000 to the families of 28 deceased officers in the state.
The amount was payment for claims in the Group Life Assurance Scheme of the deceased officers.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, on Monday, said the
commissioner of police who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration, Regina Udoette.
According to the statement, Udoette presented the cheques on behalf of the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, during the ceremony which was held at the command headquarters, Ikot-Akpanabia, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday, January 29.
The statement said “The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Olatoye Durosinmi has today on behalf of the IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, presented cheques of fifty-two Million, three Hundred and eighty-three thousand (N52,383,000) naira only to Twenty-eight (28) family members of fallen heroes who served in Akwa Ibom State Police Command as payment for claims in the Group Life Assurance Scheme.
“The CP was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration, DCP Regina Udoette who made the Presentation on behalf of the IGP.
“While condoling the deceased families, the commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money to ameliorate their financial hardships”.
The statement added that the beneficiaries expressed utmost gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for finding them worthy of benefiting from the Scheme and promised to utilize the money for the good of their respective families.
Similarly, on January 19, 2024, the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, presented N2.08bn cheques to families of police officers who died in active service in the last five years.
The money was a package under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme.
The cheques which were presented to the beneficiaries at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, comprised of beneficiaries from 2015/2016, 2017/2018, 2019/2020, 2021/2022, and 2023 fiscal year.
