Super Eagles stand-in captain, William Troost-Ekong, has said the win over Cote d’Ivoire in the Africa Cup of Nations was a morale booster to the team ahead of their next games.

Troost-Ekong’s second-half goal was all Nigeria needed to seal the victory and earned them three valuable points against the Elephants in a tense encounter at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara on Thursday.

In a chat with the Nationsport, the PAOK Salonique defender commended his players’ exceptional performance following their resounding 1-0 triumph over Cote d’Ivoire.

He stated further that he and his teammates were determined to beat Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday and heaped praises on coach Jose Peseiro for the team’s tactics.

“The victory will take us to the next game. It was good to get the points. We wanted to win the first game and we wanted to win today. I think today was a great team performance. We created so many opportunities in the match and I think we have to give credit to the coach because his tactics worked for us,” Troost-Ekong told Nationsport.
