OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi will only be available to join the Super Eagles’ train at the Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) Cote d’Ivoire 2023 after Sunday’s Group A opener against Equatorial Guinea.
The 24-year-old forward was drafted on Monday as a replacement for injured Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface. His status on Nigeria’s 25-man AFCON list was further confirmed on Monday by the Team Media Officer of the Super Eagles, Babafemi Raji, in crisp statement as the national team flew into Lagos for a send forth party arranged by the Lagos State en route to Abidjan on Wednesday.
“Update: Terem Moffi confirmed as replacement for injured Victor Boniface. He will join the team in Cote d’Ivoire,”Raji said.
But a decent source close to Moffi told The Nation late last night that the NFF has agreed with Nice to release the striker after his side’s Ligue 1 match this weekend.
“[NFF has agreed with Nice for Terem Moffi to report to the Super Eagles camp on Sunday after he would have played the club’s league game against Rennes on Saturday,” The Nation was told.“He will, therefore, miss the first hame against Equatorial Guinea.”
The Super Eagles will face hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau respectively after Sunday’s opener against Equatorial Guinea.
