Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council has announced plans to unveil its 2027 Election Debate with a press briefing scheduled for Tuesday, 16th August, 2026.

The briefing will hold at the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo at 10am.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Chairman of the 2027 Election Debate Planning Committee, Comrade Ndanti Ekuh, said the initiative is designed to provide a credible platform for candidates contesting the offices of Governor, Senator, House of Representatives and Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly members to present their vision, programmes and manifestoes to the electorate.

According to him, the debate will afford candidates the opportunity to articulate their plans for governance, highlight their track records and explain why they deserve the mandate of the people.

Comrade Ekuh stressed that democratic leadership demands accountability and informed public engagement, noting that those seeking elective offices owe the electorate a responsibility to clearly communicate their policy direction and developmental agenda.

He explained that the debate initiative forms part of the NUJ’s commitment to promoting issue-based campaigns, strengthening democratic governance and encouraging voters to make informed choices during the 2027 general elections.

The committee chairman further stated that under the leadership of Akwa Ibom State Council Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Nsibiet John, the Union remains committed to deepening democracy by creating a non-partisan platform that will enable the electorate to objectively assess candidates based on competence, character and capacity.
