The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening strategic communication and enhancing public engagement as part of efforts to improve security awareness and foster stronger relationships with citizens.
According to SwiftReporters, the IGP made this known during a working visit to the headquarters of Nigeria Police Radio 99.1FM in Jabi, Abuja, on Friday, June 5, 2026.
During the visit, IGP Disu toured the radio station’s facilities and received comprehensive briefings from management on its operations, programming schedule, achievements, and contributions to public enlightenment. He was also updated on the station’s role in promoting crime prevention initiatives, community policing programmes, and dissemination of security-related information to members of the public.
The police chief commended the management and staff of the station for their dedication to using the platform to bridge the communication gap between the Police and the public. He noted that effective communication remains a critical component of modern policing, particularly in building public trust, encouraging citizen participation in security matters, and combating misinformation.
According to him, the media plays a vital role in shaping public perception and strengthening collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. He stressed that timely, accurate, and responsible dissemination of information is essential in promoting public confidence and supporting ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across the country.
IGP Disu further reiterated the determination of the Nigeria Police Force to leverage modern communication channels and media platforms to improve transparency, showcase policing activities, and educate citizens on security issues affecting their communities.
The visit forms part of the Inspector-General’s broader strategy to strengthen the Force’s communication architecture and ensure that the Nigeria Police Force remains accessible, responsive, and accountable to the public it serves.
Nigeria Police Radio 99.1FM has continued to serve as a key platform for public enlightenment, providing security-related information, crime prevention tips, and programmes aimed at fostering community participation in policing and national security efforts.
