The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Friday announced the first recovery of a confirmed Ebola patient in the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Speaking to reporters, WHO representative Anais Legand disclosed that the patient was discharged on May 27 after recovering from the deadly virus.

According to her, the patient left the hospital and returned to the community after receiving two negative test results, confirming full recovery from Ebola.

Legand described the development as the “first” recovery among patients officially confirmed to have contracted the disease during the current outbreak.

She, however, noted that there could have been other recoveries among individuals whose laboratory test results had not yet been officially confirmed.
