In recognition of his legislative strides and representation in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has passed a vote of confidence on the Senator (Barr.) Comrade Ekong Sampson, PhD.


Senator Ekong Sampson, a member of the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State and of the Federated Chapel, represents Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District in the Senate.



The decision was taken during a well-attended March Congress of the Union held at the Patience Umo Eno Auditorium, where members noted that Senator Sampson has demonstrated quality representation by connecting professionals and grassroots stakeholders to purposeful leadership through motions, bills, and oversight functions that have earned wide admiration.



Congress observed that the Senator has remained consistent in his drive for capacity building across his senatorial district, while also demonstrating intentional commitment to empowerment programmes for the people.
Journalists further commended Senator Sampson’s ingenuity and people-oriented leadership, noting that his efforts have positively impacted the lives and wellbeing of residents across the three federal constituencies that make up Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.



The motion for the vote of confidence was moved by Comrade Ebong Umoafia and seconded by Comrade Effanga Usen, with no counter-motion raised by members. Congress also commended Senator Sampson for his accessibility, performance, and continued support for media practitioners across the state.



In a related development, the NUJ also expressed appreciation to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for appointing Senator Ekong Sampson as Chairman, Senate Committee on Solid Minerals. The Union described the appointment as well-deserved and pledged continued collaboration with the Senator.



Earlier in his remarks, Senator Ekong Sampson expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the Union for what he described as their commitment to professionalism and quality service delivery. He commended the NUJ for fostering unity among members and promoting ethical journalism.



Sampson, who was visibly elated by the warm reception from his colleagues, encouraged more journalists to participate in politics, while also supporting the Union with the furnishing of the Patience Umo Eno Auditorium.
The Senator, who highlighted his background as a journalist, said he understands the challenges faced by media practitioners and pledged continued support for the growth and welfare of journalists in Akwa Ibom State.


He also solicited the support of NUJ members for Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Senator Sampson, who was accompanied to the Congress by MP Gaza of Nasarawa Federal Constituency, assured journalists of his continued commitment to championing policies that would advance the journalism profession and improve practitioners’ welfare.


He further reaffirmed his dedication to quality representation and sustained collaboration with the media in promoting the development and progress of Akwa Ibom State.
