Akwa Ibom State Government has taken a decisive step towards the actualisation of the Ibom Deep Seaport with the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Interaf Group Consortium.

Governor Umo Eno reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the project, describing the deep seaport as a strategic economic necessity capable of transforming the state and the wider region. He spoke at the MoU signing ceremony held at Government House, Uyo.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, the Governor stressed the importance of seamless collaboration between the consortium and the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), the state’s official representative on the project, to guarantee timely and effective execution.

Governor Eno assured that his administration would put all necessary requirements in place to ensure the project stays on course, noting that the deep seaport remains a priority infrastructure for industrial growth, job creation and enhanced revenue generation for the state.


He commended Interaf Group for its interest in the project and specifically acknowledged the role of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Atuekong Don Etiebet, for his contributions toward the realisation of the long-awaited facility.
In his remarks, Atuekong Etiebet lauded Governor Eno’s leadership, describing it as visionary and impactful, with visible positive effects across the state. He noted that the MoU represents a critical milestone in the Ibom Deep Seaport project, which was first conceived in 2007, and expressed optimism that the current administration would finally drive it to completion.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Interaf Group Consortium, Engr. Ezinwa Chinedu Ibekwe, expressed appreciation to the Akwa Ibom State Government for the confidence reposed in the consortium. He assured that Interaf Group is fully prepared to deliver on its mandate, pledging a transparent and collaborative approach to ensure the success of both the deep seaport and the Ibom Industrial City.

The high point of the ceremony was the formal signing of the MoU, which outlines the modalities and preliminary framework for collaboration on the development and operation of the Ibom Deep Seaport and the Ibom Industrial City.

Dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Hon. Uko Udom, SAN; Managing Director of AKICORP, Pastor Imo-Abasi Jacob; and other senior government officials.
