The Kabiru Turaki–led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party has reappointed the Akwa Ibom State Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state for another three months.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, December 31, and signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the NWC said the decision was taken on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in line with the party’s constitution.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of our Great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has, on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), pursuant to Section 29(2)(b) of our Constitution (2025 as amended), approved the re‑appointment of the Caretaker Committee for Akwa Ibom State as follows,” the statement said.

The reconstituted committee is chaired by Igwat Umoren, with Harrison Ekpo as Deputy Chairman and Borono Bassey as Secretary.

Other key officers include Barr. Ewa Okpo (Publicity Secretary), Chief Uduak Umo Nwa Essien (Organizing Secretary), Hon. Aniekan Joseph Asuquo (Youth Leader), Mary Silvia Abara (Women Leader), Barr. Enoch Enoch (Legal Adviser).

A further 23 members were listed, including Hon. Aniebiet Cornelius, Udim Peters, Mrs. Ayanime Obot, Hon. Ofon Michael, Mrs. Mandu Paul Effiong, Hon. David Umanah, Usenmfon Ibanga, Unwana Assam, Obong Francis Akpan Ogbuji, Hon. Kufre Umoh, Emibana Ubolum, Hon. Gregory Ekpo Etim, Iberedem Asamamnyie, Barr. Mtom Ben, Iniobong Ukwak, Hon. Emmanuel Umah, Ekaette Philips, Effiong Asuquo Bassey, Hon. Effiong E. Onukak, Ime Matthew Okwong, Kate Atabia, David Ibanga and Ukoette Etukudo Ukoette.

According to the notice, “the Committee is charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the Party in Akwa Ibom State, as stipulated in Section 21(2)(a-b) of our Party’s Constitution, for a period not exceeding 3-months or until such time as a new Executive shall be elected.”

The move keeps the Akwa Ibom chapter under a caretaker structure while the Turaki‑led NWC continues its broader effort to stabilise party organs and prepare for fresh congresses.
