The Akwa Ibom Government, has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, on the passing of his mother-in-law, Late Mrs. Magdalene Udoakpan, who transitioned at the age of 80.

Conveying the condolence message on behalf of the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, on Tuesday, Nov 11, 2025, led the State delegation to the Minister’s residence at Ikot Udom, Ika Local Government Area.

Describing the late matriarch as a virtuous woman who lived a fulfilled and impactful life, leaving behind enduring legacies of love and service, Princess Ibanga noted that although death at any age brings pain, the State Government deeply identifies with the Minister and his family in their moment of grief.

“There has been a long-standing cordial relationship between this family and the State Government. We are proud of your contributions, and we are here as a State to condole with you. There is never a right time to lose a loved one, and though she lived to a ripe age of 80, her absence will surely be felt,” she stated.

The Commissioner prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed and for God’s comfort and strength upon the bereaved family. She also wished all guests attending the funeral safe travels.

Responding, Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo expressed deep appreciation to Governor Eno and the State delegation for the visit and for their show of love and solidarity during the period of mourning.

“My mother-in-law was very caring and supportive, a woman of substance who added great value to our lives. Her kindness, prayers, and wisdom shaped our paths and contributed to our successes. May God grant her eternal rest. I am grateful that you have come to identify with us in this trying time; it shows love and unity. We are truly thankful,” he said.

Other members of the delegation included, the Commissioner for Environment, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong; Special Adviser to the Governor on Cooperatives and Rural Development, Rt. Hon. Alice Ekpenyong; Executive Chairman of Ika Local Government Area, Hon. Utibe Nwoko; and the APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo.

Also in attendance were The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Eno Akpan, Aides to the Governor on Humanitarian Affairs, Prince Nsikanabasi Umoekpo and Mrs. Mfon Isreal, alongside stakeholders and political leaders from Ika Local Government Area.
