Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, afternoon in London, will be buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, on Monday, July 14, 2025.

According to reports by TVC, the late former president will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, in his ancestral home, where preparations are already underway for a state-assisted burial.
Buhari died at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at a private clinic in London, where he had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness. His death was confirmed by his former media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement posted on social media platform X.

In a swift response to the development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the death of his immediate predecessor, describing Buhari as a “patriot who served Nigeria with unyielding commitment and honour.”

President Tinubu has dispatched Vice President Kashim Shettima to London to accompany the late president’s remains back to Nigeria. Shettima is expected to arrive with Buhari’s body in the early hours of Monday before the burial in Daura.
National flags are being flown at half-mast across federal institutions, and tributes have begun pouring in from across the political spectrum, both within Nigeria and internationally.
Details of funeral arrangements, including a special prayer session and a state farewell ceremony in Katsina, are expected to be released by the presidency and the family later today.
