In a historic moment for Akwa Ibom State politics, Senate President, Chief Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio, has formally handed over the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to Governor Umo Eno, declaring him the undisputed leader of the party in Akwa Ibom.

The declaration was made during a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo. The meeting was attended by a wide array of party leaders and faithful, including the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, members of the National Assembly, national, zonal, and state officers of the party, chapter and ward chairmen, women and youth leaders, among others.

Akpabio, a former governor of the state and current Senate President, stated that leadership is not about titles but the ability to unify and serve. He praised Governor Eno’s inclusive leadership style and peaceful disposition, noting that Akwa Ibom has enjoyed unprecedented political calm under his administration.

“Governor Umo Eno is now the leader of the APC in Akwa Ibom State,” Akpabio declared.
“I am now the party leader in the South-South and the number three citizen in the country. We must support the Governor to succeed on all fronts. I have served my time as governor and now serve the nation. It is my duty to offer counsel and stand by the Governor to ensure he delivers. The peace and unity he has brought must be sustained.”

Governor Eno also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Akpabio, pledging to work for their re-election in 2027 alongside a united APC family in the state.

Earlier, APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, described the meeting as a “family gathering” and praised both leaders for putting the state’s interest above partisanship. He called on party members to close ranks and rally behind Governor Eno.

The meeting marks a significant milestone in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape—one that signals unity, continuity, and a renewed focus on collaboration for the progress of the state.
