The Federal Government has issued a fresh warning about heavy rainfall expected between June 16 and June 20, 2025, which could lead to flooding in several parts of the country.

The alert came from the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre under the Federal Ministry of Environment.

According to the agency, nine states and 24 specific areas may experience downpours that could cause serious flooding if precautions are not taken.

States likely to be affected include Bauchi (Darazo, Kirfi), Kwara (Jebba), Kaduna (Kachia), Katsina (Kaita, Katsina, Bindawa, Funtua), Niger (Mokwa, Mashegu), Adamawa (Ganye, Gbajili), Kebbi (Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Sakaba), Kano (Kano, Gwarzo, Karaye, Bebeji, Gezawa, Wudil), and Zamfara (Majara, Gusau, Bungudu).

Officials are urging people in these communities to prepare ahead by avoiding flood-prone zones, especially lowlands, and relocating to safer areas if possible.

The government said these early actions could help prevent damage and loss of lives as the country enters the peak of the rainy season.
