Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele has just scored another major win — and this time, the entire world is watching!

The award-winning actress, filmmaker, and box-office queen was named one of The Hollywood Reporter’s “Most Influential Women in International Film,” a prestigious honour reserved for 46 visionary women shaking up the global movie industry.

The list, released on Friday, May 9, celebrates boundary-breaking female filmmakers from across the globe — and Akindele’s inclusion is a loud testament to her rising influence beyond Africa.

Taking to Instagram, a visibly thrilled Funke shared her gratitude:
“I’m deeply honoured and truly grateful… This is more than a moment of celebration — it’s a call to keep building, creating boldly, and lifting others as we rise.”

Known for her blockbuster hits like Omo Ghetto: The Saga and A Tribe Called Judah, and of course, the beloved Jenifa’s Diary, Akindele has not only dominated Nigerian cinema but also reshaped how African stories are told — and sold.

Her recognition comes as no surprise to fans and industry insiders alike. With a track record of smashing box office records, breaking gender barriers, and mentoring new talent, Funke Akindele is more than a star — she’s a movement.

She didn’t forget to give flowers to another Nigerian titan on the list, media mogul Mo Abudu.

“A heartfelt congratulations to Aunty Mo… It’s an honour to be featured alongside someone who has been such a powerful source of inspiration,” she wrote.

From Lagos to Hollywood, Akindele’s light is shining bright — and it’s clear she’s only just getting started.
