Popular social media activist, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has regained his freedom from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

His release was confirmed on Wednesday by former presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, who took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to share the news.

“Thanks to unrelenting efforts of all, @thatverydarkman has been released from unjust detention at the @officialEFCC. He is with his ebullient lawyer, @adeyanjudeji,” Sowore wrote.

The circumstances surrounding Otse’s arrest and the details of his detention are yet to be fully disclosed by the EFCC. However, his release has sparked reactions from supporters online who had been campaigning for his freedom.

Otse, known for his controversial but bold commentaries on social and political issues, has consistently drawn attention to human rights abuses and corruption in Nigeria. His latest run-in with the law had drawn public outcry, with many calling it an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
