An Akwa Ibom Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has strongly criticised the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, following a widely circulated video in which the governor endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.

In a statement posted Wednesday, April 16, 2025, on his verified X (formerly Twitter) page, Inibehe condemned the endorsement as “irresponsible” and described it as a reflection of the “destructive political culture” plaguing the oil-rich state.

“The trending embarrassing video of Governor Umo Eno endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term should not come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying close attention to the destructive political culture and the cancerous partisanship that have been evolving in Akwa Ibom State over the years,” Effiong wrote.

“Some of us have consistently warned that what we have been having in Akwa Ibom is not governance, but a criminal enterprise deviously and carefully crafted to loot, kill, and destroy.”

Effiong, known for his vocal stance on governance and accountability, questioned the morality of a sitting governor who belongs to an opposition party, openly backing a president under whose administration Nigerians are “suffering the harsh effects” of economic hardship and perceived nepotism.

The lawyer particularly called out Governor Eno’s background as a clergyman, accusing him of hypocrisy.
