Dr. Doyin Okupe, a renowned Nigerian physician, politician, and former presidential aide, has passed away at the age of 72, Diaspora Digital Media reports.
According to sources close to the family, Dr. Okupe had been critically ill in the weeks leading up to his demise, with his health deteriorating significantly.
Diaspora Digital Media gathered that his death was linked to cancer, marking the end of a long struggle with the illness.
Dr. Okupe was first diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 years ago and later developed sarcoma in his right shoulder.
In October 2023, he was hospitalized with prostate cancer and flown to Israel for treatment, but unfortunately, his condition did not improve as expected.
Dr. Okupe had a distinguished career in Nigerian politics and public service.
He was a former presidential spokesperson to Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party in the last presidential election, and a former governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
He also co-founded Royal Cross Medical Centre and served as the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC).
