A pro-democracy cum human rights organisation in Nigeria, the Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN), has alleged plots to instigate labour unrest in the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The civil society group made the allegation in a Press Conference in its office in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital, on Thursday, 6th March, 2025, calling on the security agencies, management and staff of the College and members of the public to be alert and vigilant.
The CHRAN Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, who was flanked by members of the organisation during the Press Conference, stated that the group gathered some intelligence from its network in the State.
The Center said that alleged sponsors of the plots are working with some staff and members of the College community.
The CHRAN noted that the intention of the sponsors of the plots is to instigate unrest within the College, disrupt academic activities, and stall the ongoing process of upgrading the institution from a College of Education to a University of Education.
The CHRAN lauded the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for paying attention to the educational needs of the people of the State by showing concern in the development of the College through the construction of internal roads network in the College, among other ongoing projects, in the College.
The CHRAN also commended the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for considering a Bill to upgrade the College of Education, Afaha Nsit to the Akwa Ibom State University of Education, Afaha Nsit and called on all critical stakeholders within and outside the College of Education, Afaha Nsit to work together in the best interest of the College and Akwa Ibom State.
