The President, Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership, Abdul Dan – bature has raised the alarm over threats to his life and family by former Assistant Inspector – General of Police, AIG Joseph Mbu (Rtd).

Alhaji Dan – bature, explained this to this Reporter in a chat saying that, Mr. Mbu who incidentally is his landlord came to his residence at Plot 755, Durumi 2, Opposite Devine Hands of God Church, Area 1 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Wednesday February 12, 2025 with thugs under the guidance of some serving police officers to break pull down his residence thereby, exposing him and the family to danger with attendant insecurity challenges in the area.

He said, though he was dialoguing with him earlier on his tenancy that, he was surprised to over heard Mr. Mbu sending threat messages through his caretaker to inform him that, he was coming to pull down his house.

Alhaji Dan – bature further stated that few days after the threat message, he went to work only to be informed that, Mr. Mbu came into the compound in the afternoon with thugs and started breaking things including his doors and windows in an attempt to drive him out of the place.

Aside from the rent issue, he also attributed the misbehavior of the landlord to his refusal to be used against the wishes of other tenants in the compound as former care – taker nothing that, due to the threats by Mr. Mbu, he decided to petitioned IGP, Kayode Adeolu Ehbetokun through his Attorney, Jacob B. Udobang to save his life and family.

In a letter to the Inspector – General of Police (IGP) titled, “Petition Against AIG Joseph Mbu (Rtd) for Conspiracy, Mischief, Unlawful/Wilful Damage to Property and Criminal Trespass against Alhaji Abdulahi Dan – bature, dated February 13, 2025 he said, “. . . it has been the characteristics of Mr. Mbu to harass, intimidate and cause mischief to tenants any time he plans for eviction without filling civil matters in court.

“For fear of the AIG Mbu’s usual character in taking laws into his hands by destroying the properties so that tenants, whom he wants to evict would be forced to vacate the property, I decided to brief my Attorney, Jacob B. Udobang and Associates to handle the process of discussing with Mr. Mbu’s lawyer, Abdulrazak Abdul Ganiyu Esq, on the issue of my rent upward review for the flat I am occupying.

His Counsel, Barrister Jacob B. Udobang through the petition however, called for the IGP’s immediate investigation of the matter, as his client and the family are currently facing serious danger and threat to their lives by the former AIG Mbu.

According to him, “in light of the above, we hereby call for your immediate intervention to deploy full weight of the law against AIG Joseph Mbu (Rtd) because, no matter how highly placed an individual in the society, he cannot be above the law”.
