President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on winning the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on Sunday night, TheNation reports.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday, President Tinubu lauded Tems for her exceptional artistry, describing her latest achievement as another moment of pride for Nigeria on the global stage.

“On behalf of the entire nation, I commend Tems for her unique artistry, which has once again brought pride to Nigeria,” the President stated.

He also celebrated the growing influence of young and multi-talented Nigerian musicians, acknowledging their role in pushing Afrobeats to international prominence.

“From Africa to Antarctica, Asia to Australia, Europe to the Americas, the Nigerian music industry, particularly Afrobeats, has become a source of national pride, promoting a sense of identity and self-expression while uniting people across borders,” he said.

Beyond Tems’ victory, President Tinubu also extended his congratulations to other Nigerian artists who received Grammy nominations this year, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, Davido, and Burna Boy.

He commended them for their contributions to Nigeria’s creative industry, which continues to gain global recognition.

“You are all inspirations and role models to many young people. The nation remains deeply grateful for your contributions to music, job creation, and tourism promotion,” Tinubu stated, wishing them continued success in their careers.

The president reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s entertainment industry, recognizing its role in cultural diplomacy and economic growth.
