|CRIME| Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, Baba Mohammed Azare, has charged officers to hunt down criminal for peace to reign in the state He said: “The command arrested 30 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists, fraudsters and vandals, rescued five victims and recovered arms and ammunition from the hoodlums’ hideouts.”
The CP spoke at the recent Inspector General of Police conference, Police Headquarters, Abuja: “The command is enhancing its capabilities to combat emerging security threats. My mission is to make the public and police to have good relationship and imbibe community policing. This will assist police to flush out hoodlums from various communities.
“My officers are up to the task to confront security challenge. I have warned them to shun corruption. They should respect fundamental human rights and protect lives and properties of the people.
“Police operatives busted a kidnappers’ den and arrested two suspects in a thick forest in Ikot Ukpong village, Abak Local Government and rescued two victims unharmed from an abandoned soak away. We recovered Toyota sienna vehicle along Etinan Road, where they abandoned it at the scene of crime.
“Operatives arrested two suspected cult members of Klan Confraternity of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Asura, Ikot-Ekpene and recovered locally made pistol, three rounds of cartridges and Talisma. Also, police arrested four suspected cult members of Italian Mafia Confraternity and recovered locally made pistol.
“The police arrested a suspect for impersonation and fraud. He fraudulently collected N3.5 million to supply bags of rice, vegetables and seasonings. Two kidnappers were arrested and three victims rescued at Ikpaya in Ibiono Ibom Local Government, while waiting for the demanded ransom of N5million.
“Police also arrested two suspected vandals of public transformers and infrastructural facilities belonging to Sure Foundation Polytechnic, Ikot Atai, Ukanwafun Local Government. The state CID arrested six suspects for raping a13-year-old.
“I have reminded officers and men to be committed to professionalism, have zero tolerance for corruption and shun abuse of human rights. They should always operate within the ambit of the Police Act.
“Officers should to take community policing with all seriousness, have good relationship with members of the public and build confidence. We will ensure proactive response to criminal activities and engage in effective human and technical intelligence gathering process to enhance personnel capacity.”
