|TRANSPORTATION| Turkish Airlines has resumed flight operations to Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city, as part of its ongoing expansion and connectivity goal in Africa, PUNCH reports.
Commencing January 2025, the airline will operate three weekly flights between Istanbul and Benghazi using its Boeing 737-78D aircraft, with services scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
This was contained in a statement signed by the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Bilal Ekşi, and made available to Punch on Monday.
This move, according to Turkish Airlines, will solidify the airline’s position as the carrier with the most African destinations, with its current destination number put at 64 cities across the continent.
Turkish Airlines CEO expressed enthusiasm about the relaunch, highlighting the company’s commitment to connecting the continents.
“We are delighted to resume flights to Benghazi, a city with which we share historical ties.
“We anticipate that ongoing investments in the region will further boost tourism and trade, contributing to Africa’s growing potential on the global stage.”
To celebrate the return of the route, Turkish Airlines is offering promotional fares for travellers booking tickets by February 15, 2025. Prices start at $349 for flights from Istanbul to Benghazi and $249 for the reverse route, valid for travel until March 20, 2025.
The airline added that these tickets are available through Turkish Airlines’ official website, “though prices may vary at sales offices and agencies.”
