Nigerians have condemned Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, for displaying ethnic bias against the Igbo community.
The controversy erupted following Adejobi’s tweet regarding the appointment of new police commissioners across various states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
In response to a query from Adamu Muazu (@akym7463), who is not Igbo, asking if all the appointees were Yoruba, Adejobi replied affirmatively, stating, “Yes, and one of them bears Okpara, a very fine Yoruba name. Isn’t it? Ire oo.”
This remark has been interpreted as an attempt to undermine the significance of the name “Okpara,” which is traditionally Igbo, thereby revealing his ethnic bias.
This comment has been perceived as a clear indication of ethnic bigotry, prompting widespread criticism from Nigerians who see it as a disgraceful act for someone in his position.
Additionally, there are growing concerns that President Bola Tinubu’s administration may be fostering an environment of Igbo discrimination.

Olamide Oni @lamidex2 wrote: A police spokesperson should avoid engaging in inflammatory or unprofessional discussions and must always maintain a higher standard of communication. This approach is both unnecessary and beneath the dignity of your office. It’s crucial to remain professional or delegate to those more suited for such exchanges. Remember, public perception is important. |SituationReport|
