The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States has stated that they have not yet determined the reason behind the attempted assassination of former President, Donald Trump.
The Next Edition reported earlier that an assassination attempt on Trump occurred during his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on a Saturday.
Following what appeared to be two gunshots, Trump touched his face on the right side and fell to the ground.
To shield him, Secret Service agents quickly intervened.
However, Anthony Guglielmi, the spokesperson for the Secret Service, revealed that the shooter fired multiple shots towards the stage from an elevated position outside the rally venue.
Commenting on the incident, which World leaders have condemned, the FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Pittsburgh field office, Kevin Rojek, mentioned that there were no specific threats received prior to the shooting incident.
The FBI has chosen not to disclose the identity of the shooter, who was pronounced dead at the location.
Speaking during a press conference, Rojek said: “Tonight we had what we’re calling an assassination attempt on our former president, Donald Trump.
“We do not currently have an identified motive.”
Asked if law enforcement did not know the shooter was on the roof until he began firing, Rojek responded, “That is our assessment at this time.
“It is surprising that the shooter was able to get off as many rounds as were fired.”
He added, “All the details of that will come out in a later investigation.” (NaijaNews)
