In a significant move aimed at curbing the escalating cost of governance, the Abia State House of Assembly has successfully passed into law a bill seeking to revoke the Abia State Governors’ and Deputy Governors’ Pensions Law No 4 of 2001.
The bill, identified as H.A.B 11, underwent thorough deliberations, including first and second readings, consideration at the committee of the whole, and its third reading during today’s plenary session.
The newly enacted legislation, titled the Abia State Governors’ and Deputy Governors’ Pensions Law (Repeal) Bill, is expected to address concerns regarding the financial burden posed by the existing pension scheme.
By repealing the previous law, the state assembly intends to redirect resources towards fostering development initiatives within Abia State.
This measure underscores a concerted effort by the legislative body to prioritize the allocation of state funds towards initiatives that directly benefit the populace.
The decision to revoke the pension law signifies a commitment by the Abia State government to streamline governance processes and promote fiscal responsibility.
