The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has urged President Bola Tinubu to roll out economic policies that will ameliorate the hardship currently being experienced in the country.
The Council, which is the apex youth body in Nigeria, through its President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, said it was worried about the rising cost of living, noting that many students are finding it difficult to feed.
“Nigerians are hungry and Nigerians are angry; a hungry man is an angry man. We call on the President and the state Governors to roll out programs and policies that will resolve the economic and security challenges in our dear nation,” the NYCN President stated.
However, he implored Nigerians, especially youths, to be patient with the government as it strives to ensure that the current untold hardship, orchestrated by the fuel subsidy removal, is mitigated within a shortest period.
He enjoined the Nigerian Youth not to embark on any protest or join any planned protests against the federal government.
Sokubo said it was unfortunate that some unpatriotic elements are capitalizing on the rising inflation and erratic exchange rate to exploit fellow citizens.
“Sometimes, it is not only the authorities that cause our problems, even we the citizens are taking advantage of what is happening in our society to undo our dear fellow citizens,” he added.
On his part, the National Deputy Secretary General of the NYCN, Comrade Rikki Nwajiofor, while reading out the communique of the National Management Committee of the organization, disclosed that the organ passed a vote of confidence on the Sukubo-led administration of the Council.
The communique equally stated that Akoshile Mukhtar; Dotun Omoloye; Bashir Garba; Smart Uwakwe; Zaka Nehemiah; Izunna Agwuncha; Ibrahim Inuwa Dangata; Aminu Ubale Funtua; Blessing Onne Okwe; and Clinton Avwoke, were expelled from the organization for acting in breach of the NYCN Constitution, 2018, as amended.
It declared that the Grand Commander of the Nigerian Youth, GCNY, title that was conferred on the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as illegal, saying it did not emanate from the leadership of the NYCN.
“As it stands today, the only Grand Commander of the Nigerian Youth is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Management categorically stated that the award given to the former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, by some money-loving Youths in the name of NYCN, is fake and invalid.
“Management recalled that he had earlier been awarded the Doyen of Nigerian Youth and he remains so,” the communique further read.
