1. Military Postpones Ruling In Alleged Coup Plot Trial Against President Tinubu
The military has again postponed the ruling of the General Court Martial sitting over the alleged coup plot case involving some military officers accused of attempting to overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The ruling, which was earlier scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, has now been rescheduled for Monday, October 5, 2026.
In a notice issued to members of the court and other concerned parties, the military said the sitting earlier adjourned to Wednesday had been postponed.
2. EFCC Begins Probe Of Suspect Arrested With $265,000 In Kano
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has commenced investigation into a passenger arrested with $265,000 at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano State.
The EFCC disclosed this in a post on its official X account on Tuesday, September 29, saying the suspect was arrested by the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, during routine screening operations at the airport.
The suspect, Adam Musa Adam, a Nigerian passport holder, was intercepted on September 26 after arriving from New Delhi aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET941.
3. Nigeria To Buy 12 US Viper Attack Helicopters
Nigeria is moving ahead with the acquisition of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters from the United States as Abuja and Washington deepen defence cooperation amid persistent security challenges across the country.
The US Mission in Nigeria said on Tuesday that the planned acquisition demonstrated the growing security partnership between both countries.
“U.S.-Nigeria security cooperation continues to advance our shared efforts to strengthen regional security,” the mission said in a post on X.
“The planned acquisition of 12 AH-1Z Viper helicopters underscores both countries’ commitment to building Nigeria’s defense capabilities and addressing current and emerging threats together.”
4. Troops, NDLEA Arrest Nine Suspected Drug Peddlers
Troops of the 90 Amphibious Battalion, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested nine suspected drug peddlers in Sapele LGA of Delta State.
According to security sources who spoke to a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the suspects were arrested at about 11:40 p.m. on September 26, 2026, during an operation in Oghara community.
The operation led to the recovery of 13 sachets of 100mg Tramadol, one carton of Codeine, two cartons of cough syrup, 25 grammes of suspected cannabis and 25 sachets of cannabis-cake recipe.
“The suspects and the recovered items were subsequently handed over to the NDLEA office in Sapele for further investigation and appropriate action,” the sources said.

5. Police Uncover N6.17bn Cyber Fraud Syndicate, Arrest Two Indian Nationals
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, NPF-NCCC, uncovered a cyber-enabled syndicate accused of diverting N6.174 billion from the treasury collection accounts of a financial institution.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the NPF-NCCC, AIG Akaninyene Ezima, disclosed the breakthrough on Wednesday, September 30, during a press briefing at the centre’s headquarters in Abuja.
AIG Ezima said two Indian nationals linked to the alleged scheme had been arrested, while an international manhunt was underway for the suspected mastermind, identified as Sandy Agawala, the Managing Director of Ecovista Industries BVT Limited.
6. Nigerian Navy Opens 2026 Batch 39 Recruitment Exercise
The Nigerian Navy, NN, announced the commencement of its 2026 recruitment exercise for Batch 39 of the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.
According to the recruitment guideline, the exercise will run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with qualified applicants expected to complete their applications online through the Nigerian Navy’s official recruitment portal, as reported in a post on its X handle on Monday, September 28.
The Navy said the recruitment process is free of charge, warning applicants against making payments to individuals claiming to facilitate recruitment.
7. FRSC Moves To Reduce Accidents, Improve Safety Nationwide
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has called for stronger partnerships and data-driven measures to reduce road crashes and improve safety across the country.
The Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, represented by the Deputy Corps Marshal Pauline Olaye, made the call at the 2026 Special Marshals Annual Conference.
The conference, themed “Repositioning Special Marshals for Greater Impact through Strategic Partnership and Data-Driven Road Safety Interventions,” focused on strengthening the role of Special Marshals in road safety management.
Mallam Mohammed said the changing road safety situation requires innovative and evidence-based approaches to emerging challenges.
He urged Special Marshals at the zonal, state and unit levels to improve collaboration in road safety education, traffic management, emergency response, post-crash care, youth engagement and community interventions.
