The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council will on Thursday, August 27, 2026 formally inaugurate the Aviation Correspondents of Akwa Ibom State, ACAKS, as a specialized beat.

The inauguration will be performed by the Chairman of NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John at 10:00am in the Isreal Umoh Hall, NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, Off IBB Avenue, Uyo.

ACAKS is a body of professional journalists saddled with the responsibility of covering aviation activities in the state, with focus on Ibom Air, Victor Attah International Airport, and the role of aviation in driving tourism, trade and investment in Akwa Ibom State.

The Chairman of ACAKS, Dr. Charles Bassey, said the inauguration marks a new chapter in the professional reportage of aviation matters in the state. He added that the Corps will work in partnership with aviation agencies, airlines, and other stakeholders to promote accurate information and project Akwa Ibom as a leading aviation and tourism destination.

Dr. Bassey expressed appreciation to the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, for encouraging specialization in reporting. He noted that Comrade John’s support for journalists engaging in reporting specialized beats had paved way for the formation of the soon to be inaugurated Aviation Press Corps officially known as Aviation Correspondents of Akwa Ibom State, ACAKS.

Dr. Bassey called on all ACAKS members to be seated before the arrival of guests. The dress code for the event is Corporate, English or Native, with ACAKS Identity Card.

Stakeholders from aviation unions, government, and the media are expected to grace the occasion.
