Sports Commissioner Recognizes CP Baba Azare As Champion Of Peace

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohamed Azare, has been recognized as a “Champion of Peace” in Akwa Ibom State.

The recognition was made during a medal decoration by the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, during a courtesy visit to CP Baba Mohamed, at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia,early Wednesday, August 5.

Performing the honorary decoration, Elder Bassey who was flanked by his management team said: ” permit me to echo my principal, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, in thanking you and other security forces in Akwa Ibom State for the superlative peace we are enjoying here.



“There is no gainsaying that Akwa Ibom is one of the most peaceful states in the country courtesy of the cooperation and synergy of the police and sister security forces with the state government “.

The visit, however, sought to discuss areas of collaboration and involvement of Police personnel in upcoming flagship Sports events, including the State Sports Festival, National Sports Festival, and National Intermediate Games.
Elder Bassey went ahead to pour encomiums on the Police for their involvement in sports over time, up till the present moment.

“Just recently the Inspector General of Police was all praise for Corporal Nathaniel Ezekiel who won gold medal in the 400 metres hurdles for Nigeria in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

“A dedicated judoka, the IGP played host to the Judo Federation before the Games and Akwa Ibom athlete Enku Ekuta did the National proud by winning a bronze after over 24 years of no medals in the event “ the Commissioner said.

In his response the Commissioner of Police appreciated the State Governor for the enabling environment and support that has made it possible for them to perform creditably.
He promised the Commissioner maximum support in developing sports in the state and harped on a credible reward culture for those who excel in the service of the state and country.

In the Honourable Commissioner’s entourage included: Mrs Brigid Otton, Director of Sports; Coach Catherine Ekutta, Director of Coaching, Mrs Margaret Ekpo, Director of Organizing; Mr Victor Owokure, Director of Facilities; and Mrs peace Dan , Director of PRS .
