Terrorists have abducted a Kebbi State High Court Judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of the state, triggering a security response as authorities begin efforts to secure his release.
The judge was abducted in the early hours of Sunday after suspected terrorists stormed his residence along Zogirma Road in Bunza, shortly after he returned from a trip to Sokoto.
According to Daily Trust, the attack occurred around midnight on Saturday when the assailants invaded the judge’s home and took him away. Sources said Justice Bunza had just returned from Sokoto before the terrorists arrived at his residence.
A source who spoke on the incident said no one was injured during the attack, although the terrorists reportedly fired sporadic shots while carrying out the operation before leaving with the judge.
The incident was immediately reported to relevant authorities, including the leadership of the Kebbi State High Court, while security agencies were alerted to commence a rescue operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kebbi State Command, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the abduction, saying Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was taken from his residence around midnight.
Usman said the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, had deployed tactical and intelligence operatives to identified locations, including forest areas, to rescue the judge alive and unharmed.
A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the incident as disturbing, adding that the court management had engaged security agencies to strategise on securing the judge’s immediate release.
No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the abduction as of the time of filing this report.
