The Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board has strengthened its education reform drive through a proposed partnership with the Oando Foundation and Teachers Aid Initiative.
The collaboration will promote STEAM education, digital literacy, teacher support and improved learning outcomes in public schools.
The Executive Chairman of AK-SUBEB, Rt. Hon. Dr. Anietie Etuk, stated this on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, when representatives of the two organisations paid him a courtesy visit at the Board’s headquarters.
Dr. Etuk said the Board remained open to partnerships with credible development organisations whose programmes support the Akwa Ibom State Government’s education reform agenda.
He commended the Oando Foundation and the Teachers Aid Initiative for their contributions to education development, particularly their focus on improving learning outcomes and expanding opportunities for children in public schools.
According to him, investing in quality foundational education remains one of the most important responsibilities of any government and society.
“Providing our children with a solid educational foundation is a fundamental responsibility we owe them. I commend your Foundation for its commitment to societal development and for selecting Akwa Ibom State as a beneficiary of this commendable initiative,” he said.
The AK-SUBEB Chairman also highlighted the growing importance of Information and Communication Technology in modern education. He described programmes that promote digital literacy, innovation and practical learning as timely and necessary.
Dr. Etuk assured the delegation that the administration of Governor Umo Eno would support initiatives capable of producing measurable improvements in the education sector.
He advised the organisations to submit a detailed proposal outlining the proposed areas of collaboration, implementation framework and financial commitments.
“There is no doubt that His Excellency remains committed to supporting programmes that enhance educational development. We are particularly encouraged by the potential to expand this initiative to more schools across the state,” he added.
The Permanent Secretary of AK-SUBEB, Dr. Roseline Mfon, described the proposed collaboration as a transformative intervention that aligns with the state’s broader education development objectives.
She commended the Oando Foundation and the Teachers Aid Initiative for developing programmes designed to improve teaching, learning and access to modern educational resources.
Dr. Mfon assured the organisations of the Board’s cooperation in ensuring the successful implementation of the proposed partnership.
Earlier, the Head of the Oando Foundation, Mrs. Tonia Uduimoh, thanked the Executive Chairman and management of AK-SUBEB for their reception and willingness to collaborate.
She said the Foundation prioritised partnerships with governments that demonstrate clear commitment to sustainable education development.
Mrs. Uduimoh disclosed that the Foundation was implementing a STEAM Laboratory Project aimed at equipping public schools with modern facilities for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
She explained that the project was designed to transform public schools into centres of excellence, improve learning outcomes and promote innovation-driven education.
She added that the Foundation was committed to reducing the gap between public and private education by providing underserved children with access to quality facilities and learning resources.
The visit ended with an inspection of a STEAM laboratory established by the Foundation at Model Primary School, Ewet Offot, Uyo.
During the inspection, the delegation assessed the modern facilities provided to support practical teaching, digital learning and improved classroom experiences for pupils.
