The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration through enhanced strategic communication, public engagement and information sharing in support of national security and effective service delivery.

The renewed commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Iniedu, to the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Abdullahi Maiwada, at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

The visit formed part of the Force PRO’s familiarisation tour following his assumption of office and provided both institutions with an opportunity to strengthen their longstanding relationship while exploring new areas of cooperation aimed at promoting professionalism, transparency and institutional effectiveness.

The engagement also coincided with the induction of 70 officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service Public Relations Unit into the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a development both agencies described as a significant step toward entrenching professionalism and ethical standards in government communication.

Speaking during the visit, the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, DC Abdullahi Maiwada, expressed appreciation to the Force PRO for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of the strong partnership that exists between both institutions.

He commended the Nigeria Police Force for prioritising collaboration among public sector communication professionals, noting that both agencies play critical roles in shaping public perception, building citizens’ confidence and supporting the implementation of government policies through effective communication.

“The Nigeria Customs Service values its longstanding relationship with the Nigeria Police Force. Today’s engagement presents another opportunity to strengthen professional collaboration between our Public Relations Units and collectively contribute towards building stronger institutions through effective communication and stakeholder engagement,” Maiwada said.

Earlier, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to fostering productive relationships with sister security agencies, particularly in areas that enhance public trust, institutional credibility and operational effectiveness.

He observed that strategic communication has become an indispensable component of modern governance and security administration, making collaboration among public relations practitioners across government institutions both necessary and timely.

“This visit is aimed at further strengthening the cordial relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service while enhancing collaboration in strategic communication, public engagement and information sharing. As institutions serving the Nigerian people, we must continue to work together to promote professionalism, transparency and effective communication in support of our national security objectives,” Okokon stated.

Both agencies expressed optimism that the renewed collaboration would further improve information management, strengthen public confidence in government institutions and support ongoing efforts to enhance security, accountability and effective service delivery across the country.
