Nsit Ubium Council Boss launches Students online Bursary Portal

… Inaugurates Bursary Committee and Pledge to pay over 1,000 Students

Hon. Alfred Charles, the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, has inaugurated a Bursary Committee with the primary responsibility of processing bursary payments for over 1,000 students of indigent of the area.

Charles, while inaugurating the committee in his office on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, directed the immediate release of the bursary portal link to enable eligible students to commence their applications.

“This is in fulfillment of the promise the Chairman made during the disbursement of the phase one of the Nsit Ubium ₦100 m Education Trust Fund in November last year,” the Chairman said.

Charles said the essence of the bursary was to ease the financial burden on students from the local government area.

The Council Boss reiterated commitment of it’s administration that the money would go a long way in assisting the beneficiaries, especially in addition to the ₦100m Educational Trust Fund.

Charles urged students to seize the opportunity by applying online, stressing that the era of non-students benefiting from bursary payments at the expense of genuine students is over.

He noted that the introduction of the online portal was aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in the selection processes.

Charles disclosed that the dateline for registration in the portal is July 1 to July 10.

Also speaking, Prince Jimmy Jimmy, the Chairman of the Bursary Scheme and Chairman of Education Committee expressed appreciation to the Council Boss for his unwavering commitment to transforming the educational landscape of the local government.

The Committee Secretary and Personal Assistant to the Chairman on Students’ Matters, Comrade Emediong Ekongson, disclosed that the application portal link would be distributed through the chapter presidents of various tertiary institutions.

“This committee has been tasked in ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the verification process and the disbursement of bursary funds to deserving students across Nsit Ubium,” Ekongson said.

Ekongson, who is also the Personal Assistant to the Chairman on Students Matters commended the Executive Chairman for this student-friendly initiative, the payment of the first batch of the Nsit Ubium ₦100 Million Education Trust Fund and the bursary scheme, both of which are aimed at easing the financial burden on the students.

He further stated that every applicant must upload a valid Certificate of Origin, Current School Fees Payment Receipt, Admission letter, Valid Student Identity Card, and any other relevant information required on the online portal.

The committee members includes
Prince Jimmy Jimmy as Chairman,
Comrade Emediong Ekongson, as Secretary,
Mr Emediong Usoro as Member and Arc. Akwa Ekanem as Member.
