The African Democratic Congress, ADC, is set to formally unveil former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, following the former vice president’s return to Nigeria from a brief business trip abroad.

Atiku’s return comes at a crucial moment in the 2027 election calendar as political parties commence the submission of presidential nomination documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, through its nomination portal.

Although the ADC has already named Amaechi as its vice-presidential candidate, the party is yet to stage the official public presentation of the ticket. The formal announcement is now expected to follow Atiku’s arrival.

Amid speculation over the delay, sources within Atiku’s media team insist there is no disagreement regarding the vice-presidential slot, maintaining that the postponement is purely procedural and does not reflect any internal crisis within the party.

The expected unveiling is seen as a significant step in the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, as the opposition party moves to consolidate its campaign structure ahead of the polls.
