In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on the retraining of police personnel across Commands and Formations on proper weapon handling and firearms rules of engagement, the Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, conducted a week-long intensive retraining exercise from Monday, 15th June, to Friday, 19th June, 2026, for the Constables and newly promoted Corporals within the zone
This was disclosed by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, DSP Jefferson Osupe, ANIPR, ANISMA on behalf of the AIG Auwal Musa Muhammad, PSC, ANIPR of Police Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, on Friday, June 19, 2026 in Calabar.
According to DSP Osupe, the exercise comprised both theoretical and practical sessions aimed at enhancing officers’ proficiency in safe weapon handling, responsible use of firearms, and strict adherence to established rules of engagement. The training culminated in a live shooting range exercise held on Friday, 19th June, 2026, at Asabanka in Anyang’s Community, Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Ahead of the exercise, residents of the host community were advised to remain calm, avoid the designated shooting range area, and not be alarmed by the increased police presence or the sound of gunfire, as officers would be engaged in a controlled training exercise within the approved range.
Addressing participants and instructors at the exercise, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6, AIG Auwal Musa Muhammad, commended the officers and facilitators for their commitment and professionalism in ensuring the successful implementation of the Inspector-General’s directives.
The AIG noted that continuous training and retraining in weapon handling are integral components of effective policing and essential to the protection of lives and property. He emphasized that, given the prevailing security challenges in the country, personnel must strictly adhere to the Rules of Engagement and Force Order 237 governing the use of firearms. He further reminded officers that accountability and professionalism remain the hallmarks of the present police administration.
AIG Auwal Musa Muhammad also commended the Commands within Zone 6 for their unwavering commitment to the Inspector-General’s directives. He described their compliance as evidence of the strong synergy among the Commands and their collective resolve to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and effectively discharge the constitutional responsibilities of the Nigeria Police Force.
