Three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were killed by suspected bandits while carrying out official duties along the Tsamiya–Illo Road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Sources said the attack occurred at about 12:55 p.m. on June 4 when the officers were on patrol along the route.
According to a report by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagozola Makama on Saturday, the armed assailants ambushed the FRSC personnel. The officers reportedly attempted to flee after sighting the attackers, but the bandits pursued them on motorcycles and opened fire on them.
The victims were identified as Deputy Chief Road Marshal Assistant (DCRMA) Umar Aliyu, Senior Road Marshal Assistant (SRMA) Ezra Manu Gona, and Road Marshal Assistant I (RMA I) Mansur Ibrahim Nasir.
Security sources disclosed that the incident has heightened tension in the area, prompting authorities to urge personnel operating within the axis to exercise increased caution pending further security assessments.
The motive for the attack remained unclear as of the time of filing this report. However, efforts were said to be ongoing to identify those responsible and establish the circumstances surrounding the killings.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified surveillance and other precautionary measures across the affected area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
