The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken a significant step toward integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into modern policing following the successful conclusion of the Second AI-POL Leadership Dialogue Workshop on Advancing Innovation, Governance, and the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Law Enforcement.
The workshop, which ended on Wednesday in Abuja, brought together senior law enforcement officials, technology experts, policymakers, and international partners to deliberate on the growing role of AI in enhancing security operations and public safety.
Participants engaged in extensive discussions on the practical applications of artificial intelligence in law enforcement, emerging challenges associated with technological adoption, and global best practices for responsible AI deployment. The dialogue also explored strategies for strengthening innovation and governance frameworks within the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, emphasized the urgency of embracing artificial intelligence as a transformative tool for modern policing.
According to the IGP, deliberations at the workshop underscored the reality that AI is no longer a futuristic concept but a present-day technology reshaping security and law enforcement agencies across the world. He expressed appreciation to participants, facilitators, experts, and development partners for their contributions to the success of the dialogue and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to advancing strategic partnerships in the area of technology-driven policing.
One of the major highlights of the workshop was a presentation on the outcomes of the Fifth Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement, which identified Nigeria as a priority partner for the African AI Policing Pilot initiative.
Participants were encouraged to translate the knowledge and insights gained during the workshop into practical actions within their respective commands, ensuring that the benefits of AI-driven innovation are reflected in policing operations across the country.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to building safer communities through responsible innovation, accountability, and the adoption of emerging technologies that enhance service delivery and public trust.
The Force also expressed gratitude to all stakeholders whose support and dedication contributed to the success of the workshop and the ongoing modernization of policing in Nigeria.
The statement was signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
