The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has engaged international development partners and diplomatic missions in a renewed push to advance ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.
The strategic stakeholders’ dialogue, held on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was organised in collaboration with the Police Reform Secretariat as part of efforts aimed at repositioning the Force into a modern and accountable institution.
The meeting brought together representatives of the United Nations Development Programme, UN Women, the British High Commission, as well as officials from the governments of Germany, Spain, and Slovakia, alongside the National Institute for Police Studies and other development organisations supporting policing reforms in Nigeria.
Speaking during the dialogue, IGP Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a professional, intelligence-led, and technology-driven institution anchored on the rule of law, respect for human rights, accountability, and community partnership.
He stated that the ongoing reform agenda is focused on transforming the Force into a citizen-focused organisation capable of responding effectively to emerging security challenges across the country.
In his remarks, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Olu Ogunsakin, outlined key pillars of the reform agenda, including legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership development, stakeholder engagement, oversight mechanisms, and initiatives aimed at strengthening community trust.
Professor Ogunsakin also stressed the importance of sustained international collaboration in supporting institutional capacity development and ensuring long-term policing reforms in Nigeria.
The Inspector-General of Police reiterated the Force’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, discipline, and measurable reforms aligned with global best practices while addressing Nigeria’s unique security realities.
