Nigeria’s state-owned carrier Ibom Air has announced that its first-ever international flight will depart Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo for Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Saturday, May 2, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion into regional operations.

A return flight is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026, according to an official announcement by the Akwa Ibom State Government.

The development represents the airline’s transition from a domestic-focused carrier into the West African regional aviation market, nearly seven years after it commenced commercial operations in 2019.

Owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, Ibom Air has built its reputation on domestic routes connecting cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Calabar, and Enugu, with Uyo as its primary hub.

The inaugural international service has been described by state officials as a landmark achievement for both the airline and the broader economic ambitions of Akwa Ibom. The flight will originate from Victor Attah International Airport, a facility that has undergone upgrades in recent years to meet international aviation standards.

According to a government press release dated April 28, 2026, the maiden flight will be operated by Ibom Air as the state’s flagship carrier, signaling the readiness of the airport and airline to handle cross-border passenger traffic.
