The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reached out to Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, prominent figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urging them to defect to its platform and run in the 2027 general elections.

In a post shared on X on Sunday, the party indicated that Obi and Kwankwaso have a two-week window to join and clinch its presidential ticket.

“All we need right now. Just all we need. 2 weeks to deadline,” the party wrote.

The message was accompanied by an image of Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands, bearing the caption: “Nigeria will be OK”.

Recently, loyalists of both politicians unveiled the “OK Movement” aimed at rallying support for a potential joint presidential bid ahead of the next election cycle.

Following the launch, the group’s national publicity secretary, Justin Ijeh, confirmed appointments into its national executive council as well as zonal and state structures.

Meanwhile, the ADC continues to grapple with an internal leadership dispute that could undermine its readiness for the 2027 polls.

On April 22, the Supreme Court reserved judgment in an appeal filed by the faction led by David Mark against a suit instituted by Nafiu Bala, who heads a rival group.

In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership registers and nominate candidates for the forthcoming elections.

However, opposition parties on Saturday appealed to the electoral body to shift the timeline for primaries to the end of July.

Those making the request include the ADC faction led by Mark, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under Kabiru Turaki, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The opposition leaders argued that the existing timetable by INEC puts them at a disadvantage.
