The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Retd.) has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for what he described as purposeful and impactful leadership in the State.
Speaking during a courtesy visit on the Governor, April 23, 2024 at Government House, Uyo, he said driving across the State, one experiences a unique ambience of good roads and other evidences of good governance.
He said he has been an ardent follower of the ARISE programmes on television, adding that it is an evidence of where a government is committed to the people.
“My prayer is that others will also watch and see what has been done, and to know that these things are possible, it’s not rocket science,” he said.
General Musa who was in the State to deliver the Convocation Lecture at the Combined Convocation Ceremony of Akwa Ibom State University, appreciated the Governor for his warm reception, opportunity to deliver the lecture, and also commended him for delivering good governance in the State.
He noted that Akwa Ibom is peaceful because the people feel loved and cared for, and prayed that Nigeria will become as peaceful as it used to be, especially in the North.
On national security, he said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done well, so part of the things we are doing to assist the government of the day, is to put in the kinetic and non kinetic energy. The kinetic means the use of force while the non kinetic is good governance which you are doing here in Akwa Ibom.”
He noted that everyone has a role to play in security management, and called on everyone to collaborate with government, report suspicious movements, for a more efficient security in the country.
The Minister also commended Governor Eno for supporting the 2 Brigade of the Nigeria Army, and other security formations in the State, and assured of the commitment of the different agencies to secure Nigeria and make it peaceful.
In his remarks, Governor Eno appreciated the Minister for accepting to deliver the Convocation lecture and for the justice done to the subject matter.
He congratulated him on his appointment as Defence Minister some months ago, saying that he remains one of the most admired generals in the country.
Governor Eno who condoled the Minister over the loss of military officers in some parts of the country, appreciated him for his efforts thus far, and appealed for more support to security formations in the State to boost their stability.
He attributed the peace enjoyed in the State to the collaborative effort of security agencies, and assured of continuous support to enable them deliver on their mandate.
With the Governor during the visit were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakeneyi, Head of Service, Mrs Elsie Peters, Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson, and some members of the State Executive council.
In the Minister’s team were; Maj Gen Akinjobi (Rtd), Brig Gen O.M. Azuikpe, Col E.G. Usibe, Lt Col O.E. Okokon, Capt R. Nom, Capt A.B. Bature, WO Sunday E, and S.Sgt Abdul.
